Dr. Dionne (Ph.D. Mechanical Engineering - McGill University, Montreal, Canada) has nine years expertise in the fields of detonations, blast waves and combustion. Since joining Med-Eng Systems in March 2000, he has been involved in numerous projects including explosive tests on demining and bomb disposal protective equipment, blunt impact protective equipment, personal cooling systems, as well as mine protective footwear. He has devised a number of injury working charts for EOD technicians (head acceleration and chest overpressure injuries) for the free-field case, and has investigated the effect of confinement.
Since 2002, Dr. Dionne has been leading the Research Engineering group at Med-Eng, a team of scientists and technologists involved in Personal Protective Equipment development and evaluation.
During the 2004 Personal Armour Systems Symposium, taking place in The Hague, Netherlands, Dr. Dionne received the Young Talent Award, recognizing his contribution in personal protection against blast. He also received an Award of Appreciation from ASTM in 2005 for his leadership in the development of the F2371-05 standard related to the performance of personal cooling systems.
